The Guildhall

Lincoln’s Guildhall is home to the Mayor of Lincoln and where all official city council meetings are held.

It is open to the public for free guided tours on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The tours are held at  10.30am and 2 pm. As well as hearing about The Guildhall’s chequered history,  you will also be able to see the Lord Mayor of Lincoln’s insignia and regalia – considered to be one of the most important collections after that of London. Also on display is the sword presented to the City of Lincoln by King Richard II, and the city’s official charter dating back to 1157.

The Guildhall is located above the Stonebow, a medieval arch which spans the bustling High Street. The Stonebow was built on the site of the southern gate of the walled Roman city of Lindum Colonia. Lincoln’s High Street is actually part of the old Roman Ermine Street.
