Lincoln’s Christmas Market Highlights

In 1982, Lincoln Christmas Market was the first German-style Christmas Market to be held in the UK, and it is now one of Britain’s largest and most popular Christmas Markets.

Held over over 4 days in December, it attracts over 200,000 people each year.

This year the Lincoln Christmas Market begin on Thursday December 3rd and runs until Sunday December 6th.

There’s so much to do and see at the Lincoln Christmas Market, that we’ve put together a few highlights to help you to get the most of your visit.

  • The Stalls – Lincoln Christmas Market has over 200 stalls, with stallholders coming from across Britain and Europe.
    • Medieval Market – At Bishops Palace you’ll find costumed stallholders, period musicians and a great range of local gifts and produce.
    • Artisans’ Market – In St Martin’s Square on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th December is the Artisan Market, filled to bursting with local works made right here in Lincolnshire
  • Food & Drink – Lincoln Christmas Market is famous for its mouth-watering food and drink stalls.
    • Lincolnshire Larder – Showcasing the best of local Lincolnshire produce
    • F W Read & Sons – Selling the original Lincolnshire Poacher Cheese
    • Roly’s Fudge – A Steep Hill favourite, you’ll find so many wonderful varieties of fudge inside
    • European Sweets and Treats – A selection from all over Europe, you’ll find these stalls on The Lawn
    • German Stalls  – Selling bratwurst and warming gluwein! You’ll find most of these on Castle Hill and inside Lincoln Castle
  • Mulled Wine, Gluwein & Wassail – No trip to the Lincoln Christmas Market would be complete without a sampling a glass (or two) of Mulled Wine, Gluwein (the German equivalent) or Wassail (hot spiced cider). It’s a market tradition! Non-alcoholic hot fruit punches are available, as well as tea, coffee and soft drinks.
  • Fairground Rides – For the young and young at heart, Westgate will be hosting several fairground rides again this year, including dodgems and a merry-go-round. For spectacular views of the Lincoln Christmas Market, have a ride on the Big Wheel.
  • Lincoln Cathedral – One of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world and the most iconic landmark in our historic city. For the duration of the Lincoln Christmas Market, entry to Lincoln Cathedral is free. Do take time out from the hustle and bustle of the market to visit this magnificent building.
  • Historic Lincoln – Set in and around the grounds of Lincoln Castle, with Lincoln Cathedral acting as a spectacular backdrop, Lincoln Christmas Market has one of the most breath-taking settings in Britain.
